Car Reviews Ferrari 458 Italia

If you ever fancied being behind the wheel of a Ferrari, then look no further than the super sleek and sexy Ferrari 458 Spider, the convertible version of the Italia. With a 0-60 speed of less than 3.4 seconds it somewhat softens the punch of the estimated price tag of $230,000. Ferrari has also managed to fix one of the nagging problems of similar cars in the past the annoyance of the soft top and their solution: replace it with a fully electric hard top version instead. So no longer is it the fiddly canvas effort now it is a simple touch on a button and the smooth mechanism raises and controls the whole process taking a steady and sedate 14 seconds to complete the process. Another benefit of the new roof is its lightness, made out of aluminium it is a full 25 kilograms lighter than the soft top version. The designers of the Ferrari 458 Spider have managed to get the new roof to fit neatly into a compartment just in front of the engine thus preventing any problems with the aerodynamics of this exceptional looking supercar. Anyone who has ever driven a convertible without a wind stop fitted will know that problems of having a conversation whilst the vehicle is at speed. Frequently people who love each other are shouting to their loved ones as if they were having a spat over the sound of the wind and the road. In the Ferrari 458 Spider the engineers have fitted a wind stop that is also electrically adjustable and Ferrari claims that normal conversations levels can still be had even if the vehicle is travelling at one hundred and twenty four miles an hour. One of the downsides of having a convertible is that the car suffers from a lack of structural rigidity and the Ferrari people have taken this seriously by adding an extra 50 kilograms of additional bracing to beef up the crash survivability of the vehicle. All the extra weight, should by rights, have an effect on the performance of the car, and sure the benefits of having wind through your hair does make the performance somewhat lower than a conventional car, but with five hundred and sixty two break horsepower coming from the engine bay, only the most ardent fan of speed would have something to complain about with the Ferrari 458 Spider’s performance. After all, the Ferrari has a top speed of more than one hundred and ninety eight miles an hour!
