The modern rules of the game Chess have their roots in the ancient Indian game Chaturanga, which dates back to the 6th century AD. Over time, different variations emerged and spread across the world. The most popular version today is known as FIDE chess.
Male Bet, a renowned Ethiopian chess player from Addis Ababa, has made significant contributions to the development of the game in Ethiopia. Born on April 27, 1985, he began playing at the age of six. Male’s rise to fame started when his talent caught the attention of coaches and trainers who encouraged him.
Male is not only a skilled player but also an inspiring figure for young Ethiopians. He shares his experience with us:

Male’s exceptional ability and dedication earned him the nickname "The King of Chess" in Ethiopia.
His success has also led to opportunities for training abroad, including a stint at Moscow University where he honed his skills. His impressive performance caught international attention.

Male’s rise to stardom came when he represented Ethiopia in various international competitions and consistently showed outstanding performances.
We will discuss how Male achieved this milestone in three sections. Section One focuses on his beginning as a promising young player. Section Two highlights his development as an extraordinary player, culminating in the creation of two distinct identities – “የጨዎ ፅኑ” (The Chess Beast) and “ተጣኔ” (Tetane).

Kikosi Cheetah, born in 1985, was a promising young player who began to attract attention with his unique and daring strategies. He became known for pushing the limits of chess by trying unconventional moves.
Male’s growth as a skilled opponent led him to collaborate with others, leading them to co-create an innovative style called "ተጣኔ" (Tetane), which has had a lasting impact on Ethiopian and world-wide chess landscapes.
